The first rule of being a ghost whisperer: Don’t tell anyone.

Seriously. Don’t.

Sure, it might sound harmless. A fun party trick, even. I assure you, it’s not.

How do I know? Well, let’s just say that I’ve had a lot of experience with this sort of thing, and nine times out of ten, it turns into an all-consuming disaster.

Being plagued by needy ghosts twenty-four/seven is one thing; being harassed by a horde of curious — or worse, grieving — flesh-and-blood people is an entirely different circus. I mean really, who wants to hold an impromptu séance in the middle of the cereal aisle? Not me, and the manager of the grocery store probably isn’t too crazy about the idea, either.

So, that’s it. If you’re a ghost whisperer, just keep your mouth shut and act normal. Ghosts? What ghosts?

Now, if only I would start listening to my own advice …

Every book that I read is a brand new adventure for me – it doesn’t matter when it was published.  Although I will try to go back and read a first series that connects I don’t always because I’m often a mood reader and right now ghosts seem to be what I’m drawn to read about.  The Ghost Hunter Next Door is a perfect example.  While this is the beginning of a connecting series I don’t feel I have to go back right now, eventually I will but not yet.

Scarlet can see, hear, and often help ghosts.  She has had this ability from a very young age when she first saw her beloved (deceased) cat Flapjack.  Over the years she’s been a world traveler, or perhaps just running from demanding ghosts who want/need her help.  Now she’s settled down in one small magical town to open her flower shop, has a weekly meeting with the ghosts who need her help, and continues on with her life.

Until one rather loud, rude, and destructive ghost attends a meeting demanding Scarlet remove a TV crew who are in town to turn her old, haunted house into a bed and breakfast.  Blasting out the windows would get anyone’s attention, right?  Rosie isn’t above threats either as she points out that there is a poltergeist at the house who would love to make trouble for the crew.  Logic isn’t working with a woman who was murdered in that house so Scarlet sets out to solve an old murder mystery, calm some ghosts… and perhaps meet the man of her dreams.

I enjoyed The Ghost Hunter Next Door and will continue with the series that is still adding new titles as of August 2020.  There are some interesting characters that I definitely want to learn more about, intriguing twists, and a budding romance (or love triangle, not certain yet on that).  I had fun and that’s the entire point.

I own a Kindle edition of this title.
