Midlife ain’t no joke…

On paper, Georgia Nocturne has everything—a great job and a beautiful family.

But at forty-five, Georgia’s career is going nowhere and her family only pays attention to her when they need to be fed.

Frustrated with her humdrum life and the way her body is rapidly sagging and shifting as if it has a mind of its own, Georgia decides things must change.

That change comes with a blast from her past.

You see, she has a secret—she’s a retired witch and spell hunter.

Georgia decides to restore her powers and take a job hunting for a rare spell. But it turns out that Georgia is not the only hunter in town. A mysterious man also seeks the spell and he’ll stop at nothing to get it.

Can Georgia prove that she still has what it takes to be a spell hunter and gain the respect from her family that she wants? Or will she fail and let the spell fall into the wrong hands?

Titles in the Midlife Spell Hunter series include – Spell Hunter

Title:  Spell Hunter
Series:  Midlife Spell Hunter #1
Author:  Amy Boyles
Paranormal Genre:  Paranormal Women’s Fiction
Publication Date:  February 14, 2021
My Rating:  4.5 stars

Once upon a time, there was a powerful witch with the unique ability to find spell orbs.  While that may not sound like a big deal, it actually is huge for a witch cannot read a spell she cannot see – that’s where Grace and spell hunters come in as they can see the orbs and make them readable to other witches.

And Grace was very, very good at what she did until… there was an unfortunate incident, and, in addition, she fell in love with a human and wanted a family.  So, she gave up her witchy powers for love, yet time moves on, lives change, and life as a PTA mom with a family that is seriously taking her for granted gets a bit, well, annoying.  When she is recruited to do one more job for her former boss, and that feeling of being taken for granted thing became too much, Grace made a choice – one that upended her life even more than she expected.

I had such a good time with Spell Hunter which starts off the Midlife Spell Hunter series.  While, at times, it was easy to see where we were headed in Grace’s story I loved discovering the background for this new series, a taste of what life was once like before Grace gave it all up.  The world-building for this new series is there, but it’s subtle and flows naturally as the story itself progresses.

With snort-giggles, a bit of magic, some sinister characters, and a few surprises, Spell Hunter easily had me under its spell in no time at all.  This isn’t really surprising for I enjoy this author’s work in her other worlds.  If you’ve become hooked (like I have) on the newish sub-genre of PWF then you’ll want to check out this new series.  You’ll discover a funny world with magic galore, interesting characters who don’t always do what you’d expect, and stories that will capture your imagination.  I had fun here, and that’s the whole point.
