A psychic who’s afraid of ghosts… Is that even a thing?

For medium Allison Gray, it certainly is. She’s seen dead people for as long as she can remember, but a harrowing incident from her past has left her terrified of spirits.

The one in Logan’s house is no exception.

Logan Mitchell is an empath, and while his gift of reading people’s emotions has come in handy in the business world, it’s about to drive him insane. Literally.

If his psychic power doesn’t make him crazy, the ghost that’s haunting him soon will.

He’s given up hope of ever having a normal life until he meets Allison.

She could be the answer to his prayers, but even if she can overcome her fears, loving Logan will mean risking her life.

Title:  Love at First Haunt
Series:  Haunted Ever After #1
Author:  Carrie Pulkinen
Genre:  Paranormal Romance
Publication Date:  January 29, 2021
My Rating:  4.5 stars

Love at First Haunt, the beginning of the Haunted Ever After series, could fall into several Paranormal Romance sub-genres for there is romance, comedy, and a bit of a mystery/thriller feel as well.  I was easily drawn into Allison’s and Logan’s story, all the while waiting for the other shoe to drop for there is a lot going on here… not in a bad way, as it all ties together but there are puzzles to figure out.

Although Allison is a medium, has always been able to see and talk to the dead – she is actually terrified of ghosts, mainly from a nasty experience years ago.  When one of her best friends invites her to a housewarming party at a mansion that she’d recently sold Allison isn’t really looking forward to it.  But, there’s that friend code going on so she reluctantly attends.  And, as she expected is almost blown away by the swirling thoughts at the mansion.  Yet she is particularly drawn to two people – her host who is not only outright gorgeous but hauntingly sad as well – and one woman in particular who seems to internally scream pain, betrayal, and sadness, right up until she disappeared and Allison realizes she’s just read the emotions of a ghost.  Without thinking twice, Allison will run in fear from that mansion hoping to never return.

Logan is an empath, a very rich empath in a monetary way but certainly not in the ways that make for a good life.  He hides behind a reputation that is mostly created because while his talent is useful in business, on a more personal level it drains him.  He’s given up having anything like a “normal” life, a loving relationship, or anything remotely resembling happiness.  Yet, on the night of the housewarming party at his newly purchased mansion, Logan focuses in on the one woman whose thoughts aren’t a copy of every other thought in the room but of her hesitancy to be here, an underlying fear that shows itself clearly as she makes a mad dash for the door.  He has a very strong feeling exactly what drove this woman out into the night – the same ghost that’s been annoying him since he moved in.

Allison and Logan will cross paths again as the strong attraction between them seems to sizzle with a life of its own.  As they slowly open up about themselves, there are secrets they will keep until it’s absolutely necessary to share them… hopefully, not too late.

I enjoyed Love at First Haunt very much.  While the romance growing between Logan and Allison is at the forefront, the other events happening around them (and to them) kept me on my toes throughout their story.  I’ve already said more than I intended, but if you love a Paranormal Romance that goes beyond the norm into things that can terrify a sane woman, and puzzles to figure out before the happy ending can take place… then you’ll feel right at home in the Haunted Ever After series.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
