Divorced, desperate, and destitute, former restaurateur Defiance Dayne finds out she has been bequeathed a house by a complete stranger. She is surprised, to say the least, and her curiosity gets the better of her. She leaves her beloved Phoenix and heads to one of the most infamous towns in America: Salem, Massachusetts.

She’s only there to find out why a woman she’s never met would leave her a house. A veritable castle that has seen better days. She couldn’t possibly accept it, but the lawyer assigned to the case practically begs her to take it off her hands, mostly because she’s scared of it. The house. The inanimate structure that, as far as Dephne can tell, has never hurt a fly.

Though it does come with some baggage. A pesky neighbor who wants her gone. A scruffy cat who’s a bit of a jerk. And a handyman bathed in ink who could moonlight as a supermodel for GQ.

She decides to give it three days, and not because of the model. She feels at home in Salem. Safe. But even that comes to a screeching halt when people begin knocking on her door day and night, begging for her help to locate their lost objects.

Come to find out, they think she’s a witch. And after a few mysterious mishaps, Dephne is beginning to wonder if they’re right.

Genre: Paranormal Women’s Fiction

My Rating:  4.5 stars

Betwixt starts off strong, drew me in, and kept me captive until the very end… and that ending.  *sigh*  I wasn’t sure if I wanted to hug my Kindle or toss it against a wall.  I ended up just gently putting it down and thinking that, yeah, it was the perfect place to stop and without a doubt draw me right back in with the next book.  In a way, I wish that I had come across this series in the future when I could binge through them one after the other – and, in a way I will because while I read this one through my Kindle Unlimited subscription I will buy it and the next when released so I can do that mini-binge read, and re-read whenever the desire hits me.  It is, simply, that good.

The bare basics of what you need to know can be found in the cover description, yet that won’t really prepare you for the world you’re about to enter into.  Full of characters that leap off the page, suspense, danger, laughter, a few tears, and a story that grabs hold of you and never lets you go – not even on the final page.  I did find it amusing that I was falling for a house, but Percy is a character all unto itself and you will fall, eventually.  Betwixt has every aspect of Paranormal that I adore and return to time after time, plus, Defiance, the main character who feels so real, faces the same life happenings that I have and do every single day (minus the magic).  Today, I’ve found a new-to-me author to follow and devour their backlist and a series that I will be eagerly awaiting release day to snatch up the next offering.

If you love a good Paranormal Romance/Paranormal Women’s Fiction story with believable characters, ones who make you mad, sad, angry, and amused, as well as a danged good story to follow then you’ll want to pick up Betwixt right now.  I’m not going to spoil it for you with details, you should discover this world all on your own – and once you do, you will not want to leave.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
