Act of Submission by Mandy M. Roth

Haven Carey has given up everything to seek out the man responsible for her brother’s death, but she gets a lot more than she bargained for when she comes face-to-face with the tall, dark, and delicious alpha. When her world is turned on its head, she soon discovers that nothing is as it appears to be.

Cat-shifting PSI-Operative Miles “Boomer” Walsh is the team loner for a reason—nothing and no one touches him. Not anymore. Except when a beautiful vixen shows up, claiming he murdered her brother and tries to kill him. It’s not the first time a female’s tried to end him.

But this time is different. Primal instinct demands his total surrender to whatever the woman has in mind… especially if that something includes a little pain mixed with pleasure.

This is an adult 18+ story that contains language, possible violence, and sexual situations geared to an adult audience.

Titles in the PSI Ops (Paranormal Security & Intelligence) series include – Act of Mercy – Act of Surrender – Act of Submission – Act of Command – Act of Passion – Act of Brotherhood – Act of Surveillance – Act of Freedom –

This series is part of an entire world that consists of several relating series.  There is a suggested reading list on our Reading Order Lists & Cross-Over Series page.  I’d highly recommend reading them in that order, if possible because they all do blend together – a lot.

Series that connect: Immortal Ops — PSI Ops (Paranormal Security & Intelligence) — Crimson Ops — Shadow Agents — Immortal Outcasts

Title:  Act of Submission
Series:  PSI Ops #3 (part of the Immortal Ops world)
Author:  Mandy M. Roth
Published:  August 11, 2015
My Rating:  4.5 stars

I’ve been waiting for Miles “Boomer’s” story to come along as I’m reading the Immortal Ops world in the author’s suggested reading order.  This explosives expert has so much pain beneath the surface of goth clothing, and silver piercings than he will ever allow the world to see… and that includes his “brothers” within PSI Ops.  While he will joke around, toss sass at his teammates, Boomer also keeps himself a bit distant – and finally, we get to understand why, and why perhaps he’s not going to change much once he’s found his mate but he will eventually, slowly allow his mate to heal his past with her acceptance and her love… but I’m getting ahead of myself.

First, we have to put Haven and Miles together, and that was done so subtly yet with the strength of a well-placed 2×4 to the head, and I loved how these two met and immediately had snark flowing between them.

Haven has finally tracked down the man she’s been told, and she believes killed her twin brother.  It hasn’t been easy but now as she’s ready to storm the building where she knows the killer is, yet something is off, she’s feeling an odd connection here that makes no sense – but odd feelings or not she’s about to take the life of the man who stole her brother from her with not one single regret.  Except… nothing went according to plan, and facts will reveal something far different and more sinister than she could have ever imagined.  And how in the world could this fiend be her mate?  There is no way she’s the mate to a man like Miles Walsh… unless she’s been lied to, with a purpose, and she’s also just walked into a trap.

I enjoyed Act of Submission very much.  Haven is intense, determined, and the chemistry between one stubborn woman and Miles is… explosive.  We’ve known for some time that there are more secrets in Miles’ past than we were aware of and learning some of those secrets only made me enjoy this man even more.  He’s been through hell and back… and survived, even when he had no desire to.

I adored Scar and that big cat’s attitude with Miles and Haven… and a far different stance with just about everyone else, except maybe Lil Duke, but who wouldn’t adore that tiny, mischievous tutu-wearing monkey?

The evil here is particularly sinister, and you’ll see why.  I have a feeling we’re going to be dealing with this villain quite a bit in the future of this series.  The action is fast-paced, intense and the lovin’ is steamy.  Haven and Miles just work so well together, well, once they got that little misunderstanding out of the way.  *wink*  I had a blast, and that’s why I’m about to dive into the next story… to know what comes next.

*This review originally appeared on my Shifter Haven website, but it really needs to be here with all the various Paranormals. 🙂

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription. but these combined series came out of KU in November of 2020 and are now available on all vendors.

Available in audio or for your favorite e-reader, mine is the Kindle.
